These Sweet Potato Bacon Dog Chews are sure to become your dog’s favorite treat! Sweet potatoes make an excellent dog treat ingredient, especially as the main component.
The same things that make them so good for you are the same for your pet- they are loaded with Iron, B6, and potassium. Chewing is also a great way to help clean your pets teeth so making a treat that requires prolonged chewing is also helpful for their dental health.
I use only 3 tasty ingredients to make this dog treat- sweet potatoes, bacon grease, and a dash of Parmesan cheese. The dogs really love the flavor of this and it is among their absolute favorite homemade treats. You can also use olive oil or coconut oil in place of bacon grease if you prefer- we usually have bacon grease on hand so it is a great go to ingredient for some of my dog treats.
Sweet Potato Bacon Dog Chews Ingredients:
- 1 large sweet potato
- 2-3 tsp. Bacon grease
- Parmesan cheese for sprinkling
Dog Chews Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 200°
2. Slice sweet potato somewhere between 1/4” to 1/3” of an inch. ( I don’t recommend going outside of these because too thin and it will burn and also not last, too thick and the edges will burn before center is chewy.)
3. Toss sweet potato slices in a bowl with bacon grease to coat well
4. Spread out flat, not touching on a baking sheet.
5. Bake for 3-4 hours, turning at least once halfway through cooking time.
6. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
7. Store in an airtight container.
These Sweet Potato Bacon Dog Chews are so simple to make and are sure to be a hit with your furry family!
